NPR's Snigda Prakash reports that Superior Bank was closed yesterday by the federal Office of Thrift Supervision. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation was appointed as receiver. This failure is expected to cost the FDIC an estimated $500 million — making it one of the costliest closures ever.
