Stimulus Package

NPR's David Welna reports on the contentious debate that preceded House passage of a $100 billion Republican-sponsored economic stimulus package. It was approved yesterday by a narrow 216-to-214 vote, mostly along party lines. Democrats argued that the corporate tax cuts that make up a large part of the legislation would not stimulate the economy and would do little to help thousands of workers who've lost their jobs. Republicans countered that the measures would create investment in new plants, increase productivity, and create jobs.
