Pentagon officials challenged a report by the Taliban that U.S. helicopters were involved in a failed attempt to rescue the Afghan opposition leader Abdul Haq. And the Pentagon reiterated today that its air campaign is intended to aid the opposition fighters. NPR's Tom Gjelten has the story.
