After last year's politically tinged EP Peace Queer, Nashville singer-songwriter Todd Snider headed to the West Coast with renowned producer Don Was and celebrity studio men Greg Liesz (steel guitar, dobro) and Jim Keltner (drums) to record The Excitement Plan. Snider's wit is as clear and concise as ever, and he inhabits fictional characters with humor and imagination. He adopts the personality of a tree in "Dollface," and gives a vivid description of what famed Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Doc Ellis saw the day he threw a no-hitter in "America's Favorite Pastime."
Performing with guitar and harmonica, as he has for more than 15 years, Snider makes his 10th appearance on Mountain Stage since 1995 in this episode, recorded at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Ky.
This feature originally ran Sept. 30, 2009.
