October 7, 2009 - The Gossip has built its reputation on its incredible live performances. The post-punk trio, based in Olympia, Wash., mixes incendiary guitar noise with funk bass lines and adrenaline-infused rhythms, while frontwoman Beth Ditto thrashes onstage, sometimes stripping down to her underwear. Fans can experience this sonic jolt firsthand in this full concert by The Gossip, recorded live from the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. The performance is hosted by All Songs Considered's Bob Boilen and Monitor Mix blogger Carrie Brownstein.

The Gossip is touring in support of its latest album, Music for Men; it's the band's fourth full-length release since forming in 1999. Produced by Rick Rubin, it features Beth Ditto on vocals, Hannah Billie on drums and Brace Paine on guitar, bass and keyboards.

"We wrote a lot of this album in the studio," Paine says. "We kept it really simple. There's usually not more than two things going on at once on the record. It just started out with bass lines, and then I'd put a guitar over it or synth. I thought a lot about how it's gonna sound live. We're a live band, so much. We have a fourth member, a bassist, onstage. I play keyboards at the same time as guitar."
