Jay Field of Chicago Public Radio reports on Illinois Gov. George Ryan's decision to close the Joliet Correctional Center, one of the oldest and most notorious maximum security prisons in the United States. Joliet was built between 1858 and 1870 by inmates and remodeled in 1943. Closing the facility will save the state about $4 million a year.
