With roots firmly planted in the Mississippi traditions of Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside, The Hill Country Revue performs gritty Southern rock and blues live on Mountain Stage.

Hill Country Revue was started in 2008 by North Mississippi Allstars leader Cody Dickinson, and features bassist Chris Chew, drummer Edward Cleveland, vocalist Dan Coburn, keyboard player Lucas Leigh and guitarist Kirk Smithart. Most of the band's repertoire were written by Gary Burnside — the youngest son of R.L. Burnside, pioneer of the trance-like, one-chord grooves associated with the region's juke-joint performers.

Mountain Stage pianist Bob Thompson closes this segment with the classic American tune, "Old Folks."

This segment originally aired on October 9, 2009.
