The Widows of Afghanistan

Weekend Edition host Scott Simon reports from Kabul on the life lived by the many women of Afghanistan whose husbands died or were killed in during two decades of war. Under the Taliban regime, women were not allowed to hold jobs or to leave their homes without a male relative: sentencing many widows to a life of extreme poverty.
