Country Roots

John speaks with country music historian and author, Bill Malone. His latest book Don't Get Above Your Raisin': Country Music and the Southern Working Class, traces the evolution of the earliest country music - characterized by southern working class hopes and values and a simple sound - all the way to today's current slick pop/country music produced in Nashville. (Don't Get Above Your Raisin': Country Music and the Southern Working Class is published by University of Illinois Press.)
