It took space-walking astronauts to give the Hubble Space Telescope the equivalent of a heart transplant, but NASA engineers have revived the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) spacecraft without leaving earth. FUSE was given up for dead in December when critical guidance components failed. Now ingenious new software allows the spacecraft to use the push and pull of the earth's magnetic field to maneuver itself so that it's facing the right way. NPR's Richard Harris has the story.
