NPR Legal Affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg reports that Mississippi Judge Charles Pickering appears to have lost his chance at a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals after the Senate Judiciary Committee rejected his nomination yesterday. The White House accuses committee Democrats of partisanship, while Democrats criticize Pickering's record on civil rights.
