NPR's Ivan Watson reports that Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan's interim president, is scheduled to arrive in Rome Tuesday to bring former king Mohammed Zaher Shah back to Afghanistan. The hope is that Shah will be a unifying force in the fractious country. He is due to convene a national council in June to select a new government.
