Robert talks with Tom Standage, author of The Turk: The Life and Times of the Famous Eighteenth-Century Chess-Playing Machine. The book chronicles the invention of a chess-playing machine made by a Hungarian nobleman in 1769. Standage says the invention spurred the invention of the power loom and the computer.
