Rumsfeld - India & Pakistan

NPR's Steve Inskeep reports the risk of war between India and Pakistan remains high and the United States is stepping up its efforts to ease tensions between the two South Asian nuclear powers. President Bush announced today that he will send Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to speak with leaders in both countries. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage also has plans to go to the region. Meanwhile, the State Department and Pentagon have contingency plans for evacuating Americans from India and Pakistan — just in case.
