Homicide and robbery are on the rise again in the United States for the first time in nearly 10 years. Robert Siegel talks with Andrew Karmen, professor of sociology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, about the possible reasons for this. Karmen is also author of New York Murder Mystery which looks at the plunge in crime in New York City in the 1990s. (4:30) Karmen's book is published by New York University Press.
