Black Farmers

NPR's Jason Beaubien reports on a rally today by black farmers outside the Department of Agriculture in Washington. The farmers have sued the government, claiming that blacks are routinely denied loans under farm programs. They also say few farmers have received payments that the government agreed to make under the settlement of a previous lawsuit. Agriculture department officials say they are running the programs and implementing the settlement in good faith.
