The 'Potato Ball' Incident
Producer Dan Collison brings us this story of the infamous "potato ball incident" of 1987. In August of that year, at a minor league baseball game in Williamsport, Pa., catcher Dave Bresnahan thought he'd have a little fun, and substituted a peeled potato for the baseball in play. Bresnahan was asked to leave the team the next day. The story of the potato incident soon spread, though, and Bresnahan soon became a minor league cause-celebre for his hijinks.
