Audio for this story from Performance Today is not available.

As part of PT's month-long series for African-American History Month, we revisit the 2000 King Celebration concert that featured guest artist S. Epatha (eh-PAY-thah) Merkerson (of "Law and Order" fame). Merkerson introduces a centennial perofrmance of the piece called "The Black National Anthem": "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by James Weldon Johnson. It's performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, with the Glee Clubs of Morehouse and Spelman Colleges and the Wendell Whalum Community Chorus. Andre Raphel (rah-PHEL) Smith conducts.
