Robert Merton, considered one of the most influential sociologists of the 20th century, dies Sunday in Manhattan at 92. Merton's work crossed boundaries from literature to science to mass media. NPR's Melissa Block talks to Jonathan Cole, provost of Columbia University, where Merton was a professor for decades.
