After more than 30 years of space travel, NASA has lost contact with the robot explorer Pioneer 10. Commentator Andrew Chaikin looks back on the "life" of Pioneer 10 — the spacecraft whose interstellar wandering has given scientists some of the first intimate glimpses of outer space. Pioneer 10 was equipped with information about where it came from, as a message for whoever may find the unmanned probe.
