The humanity of Beethoven

Audio for this story from Performance Today is not available.

In his only opera, "Fidelio," Beethoven rails against tyranny and opression. It's the story of a determined woman who disguises herself in order to rescue her husband, a political prisoner. It all starts out with a dramatic overture, which we'll hear performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra led by Robert Spano.
