November 3, 2009 - Making his 10th appearance on Mountain Stage, acoustic blues singer-songwriter Chris Smither plays songs from his 11th studio album, Time Stand Still.
Smither opens with "Surprise, Surprise," a topical song about the anniversary of the great Stock Market crash of 1929. Alongside his deft finger-picking and foot-tapping, Smither's understated, matter-of-fact vocals ring clear on songs inspired by fatherhood ("I Don't Know"), his former "bad boy" status ("Don't Call Me Stranger") and his own dad ("Old Man Down").
Smither's short story, "Leroy Purcell," was recently included in Amplified, a book compiling stories by musicians such as Rhett Miller, Patty Larkin, Robbie Fulks and many more. Smither continues to tour the American Northeast throughout 2009, and will head to Australia in March.
