November 4, 2009 - A onetime frontman for The Stranglers and part of the first wave of British punk, Hugh Cornwell has long been known as a top songwriter and performer in the U.K. In 1979, after enjoying huge success in Europe with The Stranglers, Cornwell embarked on his first foray into solo work, a project entitled Nosferatu. Though The Stranglers maintained a following throughout the '80s, Cornwell announced his departure from the group in 1990.
Focusing on his solo career, he became a prolific writer of gritty rock tunes. His seventh and latest album, Hoover Dam, is a garage-rock homage available as a free download.
