A sophisticated songwriter with a knack for wordplay, Dawn Landes has also worked as a recording engineer on several movie soundtracks. When she isn't behind the boards in the studio, she's singing her own indie-rock tunes.
Dawn Landes. Alex Solmssen
Her compelling mix of alternative folk with instrumental experimentation — on guitar, accordion, glockenspiel and optigan — gives her sweet-sounding indie-pop grooves just the right hint of country. After her self-produced debut, Dawn's Music, and the sophomore success of Fireproof (which was recorded in an old fire station in Brooklyn), Landes spent 2008 touring with The Swell Season, Midlake, Josh Ritter, Jason Isbell and more. After such extensive touring, Landes focused her attention on her third studio album, Sweet Heart Rodeo. The album ties together classic tales of love and loss, using the rodeo as a metaphorical device.
