A skateboarding park and school opened this week in the Afghan capital Kabul. It's the culmination of two years of effort, which started when two Australians taught the skill to some Afghan kids. STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

Afghanistan may not have peace, but it has skateboards. A skateboarding park and school opened this week in Kabul. It's the culmination of two years of effort, which started when two Australians taught the skill to Afghan kids. They began in a dried-up fountain. Now Afghans have received hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations for an indoor facility. All sorts of Afghans can practice their moves in what is called Skatistan(ph).

It's MORNING EDITION.
