The Internet retailing giant turned in one of its best quarters ever. Profits more than tripled, reflecting strong sales of books, music and electronics worldwide. Its shares skyrocketed $14.70, or 21 percent, to $83.95 in after-hours electronic trading.

The Internet retailing giant turned in one of its best quarters ever with a huge increase in profits. Amazon released its second quarter numbers just after the market closed yesterday, and its shares jumped 19 percent higher in after-hours trading.
