The sound of one of the world's best orchestras has been replaced by the sound of picketers. Musicians at the Cleveland Orchestra went on strike Sunday night after failing to reach an agreement with management. The strike involves salary and benefits, but also larger issues such as the financial health of the greater Cleveland area, and the reputation of the musicians and their perceived ranking among orchestra musicians throughout the U.S. and the world.
