British TV host Kay Burley mistook Vice President Joe Biden's Ash Wednesday ashes for a bruise on his forehead. On Sky News she asked, "What's happened to his head?" She apologized saying later she realized it was Ash Wednesday.

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep. Vice President Biden was shown live on Britain's Sky News when the anchor noticed a dot on his forehead.

Unidentified Woman: She said, What happened to his head? I'm sure that's what everybody's asking at home.

INSKEEP: Kay Burley and a correspondent speculated for some time. Maybe he was injured or maybe...

Ms. KAY BURLEY (Sky News): I now that I am a very bad Catholic. I know now that it is Ash Wednesday and I know that those are ashes on his forehead. I hang my head in shame. I'll be back in just a moment.

INSKEEP: It's MORNING EDITION.
