The Philadelphia band Blood Feathers started out as a free-wheeling classic-rock outfit: Its members recorded their 2006 debut, Curse & Praise, in just a week. Since then, though, their ambitions have grown considerably, as the group has swollen to six members while fleshing out its songs with horns, keyboards and even four-part harmonies. Click the link above to hear Blood Feathers perform live in concert from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

As much as the increase in band membership stands out, Blood Feathers' real trick has been to fuse a wide variety of genres, from rock and blues to jazz and even gospel. The group's charming, gritty and hook-filled sophomore album, Goodness Gracious, finds Blood Feathers mixing all those elements to create something that still sounds like timeless American rock 'n' roll.
