A Civil Engineer's View of the Collapse
Thomas Rooney, a civil engineer based in St. Louis, says that engineers often know where infrastructure problems lie, but have difficulty getting the political will to spend money on maintenance. Citing other recent incidents, including the failure of New Orleans' levees, Rooney predicts that there will be continuing ramifications from poorly maintained infrastructure pieces.
