The U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., held the first memorial service in more than four years for an airman killed in the war on terror. Randy Gillespie, 44, asked to be deployed one last time before he left the military. He got that assignment last year and was sent to Afghanistan to help train the Afghan national army. He was cut down in July by small arms fire about 300 miles west of Kabul.
A master sergeant, he spent 24 years in the Air Force. He was planning to retire next year and move back to Colorado. His wife and four children join other mourners for his funeral at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
