Communities face a Friday deadline to submit requests to Google for a super-fast Internet connection. Already, towns and cities have gone overboard trying to win Google's attention after the company announced it will build experimental Internet networks in select communities. Topeka, Kan., temporarily renamed itself "Google."

RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

And our last word in business is Google-eyed.

Today is the deadline for communities to submit requests to Google for a super-fast Internet connection. A few weeks ago, Google announced it will build experimental networks with speeds hundreds of times faster than what's currently available. Towns and cities went gaga. Topeka temporarily renamed itself Google, Kansas. Other mayors jumped out of airplanes and dove into shark pools to show their enthusiasm.
