NPR's Linda Wertheimer talks with actor Hal Holbrook. He's narrating a one-time only performance by the Des Moines Choral Society about Iowa's involvement in the Civil War. Iowans were the first Union soldiers to fight alongside African-American troops and had the greatest per capita number of soldiers — sending a total of 76,000 to fight — of all the states in the Union.
