Forum Focused on Gay Issues Marks Changing Tide

The Democratic presidential candidates will participate in a first-ever debate designed primarily for gay voters. It will be broadcast on a cable channel that caters to gays, and its focus will be issues of special interest to the gay community.

A few years ago, such a forum would have been seen as a political liability — even political suicide in some states.
