Word War II-Era Mine Discovered

text sizeAAA
August 9, 2007

A World War II mine was discovered Thursday in the Black Sea port of Sevastopol, Ukraine.

The mine may weigh up to 1,100 pounds and may contain up to 110 pounds of TNT. It did not cause any damage, and Ukrainian officials are going to take it to a safe place and blow it up.

Melvin Goodman, senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, says old weapons are found on a fairly regular basis. Goodman says it is unlikely that the device would still be opertive.

Goodman talks with Alex Chadwick.
