Congress Probes Move of Arctic Refuge Photos to Smithsonian Basement

NPR's David Welna reports on a congressional oversight hearing held Tuesday in which Smithsonian officials defended their decision to move an exhibit of Arctic wildlife refuge photographs to an out-of-the-way location in the building. Museum officials say the photos' captions included statements of political advocacy, which they found unacceptable. Democrats charge the Smithsonian was pressured to change the exhibit by those who support drilling for oil in the Arctic region.
