New York City Suffers Economic Downturn

With the slowdown on Wall Street and the effects of the Sept. 11 attacks still lingering, New York City struggles through its toughest economic climate in years. Unemployment is at 8.5 percent — the highest of any major metropolitan area in the nation. Commercial real estate vacancy rates are up and retail sales are down. Hear NPR's Jim Zarroli.
