More Couples Divorce After Decades Of Marriage

Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife Tipper have announced they are separating after 40 years of marriage. The news came as a surprise. But divorce after decades of marriage is common and is likely to become more so as people live longer and healthier lives.

The vow of till death do us part is more of a challenge than it used to be. A couple in their 60s today can easily expect another two decades or more of a productive, healthy life — something unheard of in the history of marriage.
