RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne. Among the items auctioned off yesterday, in what was billed as the largest collections of Winston Churchill memorabilia, was a cigar, the kind he'd famously clench in his teeth. It was unsmoked. Churchill's response: I'm ashamed of you for writing such a letter. I return it to you to burn and forget.

It's MORNING EDITION.
