Katrina Survivor Faces Hurdles in Return Home
Sharon White, a Hurricane Katrina survivor, has faced one snag after another in her effort to restore her home in New Orleans East.
She had gotten it to near-livable condition — until a theft this year. Thieves broke in and stole all kinds of copper wire and plumbing — forcing her to put off her return to the neighborhood.
The incident coincides with a health problem that requires surgery this month.
Through it all, she remains an unyielding optimist, saying she will return to New Orleans because it's the only place she feels at home.
White talks with Michele Norris.
