Experian Looks For New Band To Promote Site

Experian had a band to promote its previous site FreeCreditReport.com. Now it's looking for a new band to promote its new site FreeCreditScore.Com. Experian is sponsoring a contest to find the band.

Our last word in business is battle of the credit score bands.

Our nation's musical talent isn't singing about love or angst or whatever it is that bands sing about. They're crooning about credit scores. You may have heard this ad.

Mr. DAVE MUHLENFELD (Senior Copywriter, Martin Agency): (Singing) Should've gone to FreeCreditReport.com. Yee-hah. I could've seen this coming at me like an atom bomb.

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

I have heard that. It's from a commercial for FreeCreditReport.com, a website selling credit score-related products. It's owned by the credit score giant Experian.

AMOS: Government regulators want to promote their preferred site, the less commercialized AnnualCreditReport.com. You can get your credit score without running a gauntlet of marketing pitches. So, they've been running this ad.

Unidentified Man #1: (Singing) AnnualCreditReport.com, the one you can depend upon.

INSKEEP: But big business is one step ahead. Experian has a campaign for its new site, FreeCreditScore.com, which has sponsored a contest to find a new band.

AMOS: The winner gets money, gear, a trip to the MTV Awards and consumers will soon have to endure a new onslaught of ads about credit scores.
