The Italian film Respiro is based on a Sicilian folk tale and features an island that time seems to have passed by. It's the story of a 12-year-old boy's plan to foil his father's efforts to institutionalize his volatile mother. Valeria Golino heads a robust cast. NPR's Bob Mondello offers a review.
