It's no surprise that musicians rank among the most impassioned admirers of folk-rock singer John Prine, whose brilliant songs have been covered countless times. Appropriately enough, a new tribute album (Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine) features the likes of Conor Oberst, Justin Vernon from Bon Iver, My Morning Jacket, Josh Ritter, The Avett Brothers and others, but Prine continues to function as a touring war horse and vital recording artist in his own right. Prine's new live disc, In Person & On Stage, provides a career-spanning primer for this live set at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, R.I.
