When The Miniature Tigers left the Southwest for Brooklyn, the Internet buzz cropped up almost overnight. Appropriately, the band's new album, Fortress, is full of Williamsburg-friendly rooftop ice-breakers and frothy, summer-ready hooks. In "Bullfighter Jacket," singer Charlie Brand's wispy, boyish voice melds nicely with laid-back grooves as he sings against a pounding piano, "You've got your bullfighter jacket on and nothing beneath / I yearn to take my mask off and kiss you in the street."

Wedged between a dreamy throwback sound and rapid-fire backing harmonies, Brand carries a degree of self-seriousness, lending nuanced shades of gray to an otherwise chipper mood. Produced by The Morning Benders' Chris Chu, "Bullfighter Jacket" quickly identifies itself as the band's best work yet, with tight chord progressions and glimmers of yet more growth potential.
