In a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee, Attorney General John Ashcroft defends his use of expanded government powers to wage war on terror. Ashcroft says Congress should expand parts of the Patriot Act that are set to expire in two years. But civil liberties advocates say the government has abused those powers in the detention of immigrants. NPR's Larry Abramson reports.
