Hailing from Chapel Hill, N.C., Lost in the Trees is an orchestral folk outfit where the orchestra comes first and foremost. Frontman Ari Picker is the head of the group of musicians, who come from both conservatories and jam bands. Picker came from the latter until he attended the Berklee College of Music and jumped into classical composition studies.
The first few releases of Lost in the Trees came out on the small label Trekky, including the recently reissued All Alone in an Empty House. Backed by a band of orchestra members from the University of North Carolina, Picker's voice reaches great heights thanks to a full string section, horn section, accordion, mandolin and glockenspiel.
Listen to two songs from the All Alone in an Empty House reissue on this installment of World Cafe: Next.
