Short for Animal Liberation Orchestra, the jam band ALO has gained national attention since signing with Jack Johnson's Brushfire record label. Its members know Johnson from their days at the University of California-Santa Barbara.

ALO's newest album, Man of the World, was produced by Johnson and showcases the quartet's penchant for cheerful, bluesy jam sessions. It's packed with congas and steel guitar, all bouncing around in reggae-tinged tempos.

Here, you can listen to the band tell tales about recording at Johnson's Mango Tree studio in Hawaii — and, of course, play three songs on the World Cafe Live stage in front of a packed audience.
