June 17, 2003 - Vocalist Lizz Wright is creating a buzz in the jazz community. Critics have remarked that the young jazz artist has a "penchant for leisurely tempos, soulful interpretations and gloriously resonant low notes."

Last summer, Wright's deep, resonating voice went straight through an unsuspecting audience at the Hollywood Bowl's Playboy Jazz Festival. It was her coming out. This year she returned to the festival with her debut album. Salt, which features her own songs, has captured jazz enthusiasts and critics alike. For NPR's The Tavis Smiley Show, NPR producer Roy Hurst speaks with Wright about her music and her love of jazz.
