Explosions, Anti-Aircraft Fire Noted in Mosul

Flashes seen at Mosul, in northwestern Iraq, indicate an aerial attack may be underway there. Eyewitnesses report anti-aircraft fire and explosions. Calm prevails in much of Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq for the time being. There are reports of military planes landing outside the largest Kurdish city in the region, Sulaymaniya. Air strikes are also reported in an area controlled by Islamist guerrillas linked to al Qaeda. Hear NPR's Lynn Neary and NPR's Ivan Watson.
