The troops of the U.S. Army Third Infantry Division were among the first in theater, the first into Iraq, the first into Baghdad. They saw some of the heaviest fighting and now they are patrolling one of the most dangerous towns, Falluja. They expected to be home by now, but last week the Pentagon announced they would stay until September and perhaps longer if U.S. or international replacement troops cannot be found. NPR's Tom Gjelten reports.
